The Brooks Family has been in
Dallas since 1942. After Wilson & Faye Brooks
graduated high school they made their home in
Oak Cliff, Texas. Wilson Brooks was a barber by
trade and worked in the Oak Cliff / Dallas area
from 1942 to 1972 when he passed away. Faye Brooks
rode the trolley car every morning from Oak Cliff
to Downtown Dallas where she worked for A. Harris
& Company for many years. In 1955 Wilson &
Faye moved their home and family to Farmers Branch,
Texas. Wilson was involved with Senior league
baseball for many years in Farmers Branch. They
were members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Many Saturdays Wilson would gather the neighborhood
boys and give them haircuts free of charge. He
was very active and very loving with his neighbors
and community and especially his family. Faye
was very active in civic and schools in Farmers
Branch. She was very active in P.T.A. Faye has
never met a stranger. She has helped many families
along the way. Wilson and Faye had four children.
Wilson's hard work ethics in treating people fairly
was instilled in his children. After Wilson's
death in 1972, Faye reared her children as a single
mother. She later married James N. Sturgis, a
longtime family friend, who had lost his wife
to heart disease. They continued to reside in
Farmers Branch and are members of St. Andrews
Episcopal Church. James N. Sturgis served as an
executive with Dupont for over 40 years when he
retired in 1994.
